Posts: 991Now this makes a little more sense. However, foreigners are not the ones being targeted. It's Thais. Secondly, you have no idea how lazy the revenue dept staff are do you? I know someone that insisted on getting a tax ID because of the new law. When he went to the government office, they refused to give it to him. The reason they gave him was enforcement. They don't want the extra work to go after foreigners. Believe me. If they target foreigners on this law, do you know how many foreigners will leave and retire elsewhere? Or they will just use a visa agent for their extension, just like they do when they dont have the 800 K or cant prove their income for their extension of stay based on retirement.

Posts: 991I said the same thing but I used the proper language of accessible income. That has changed., but the 180 rule has not. This means what you bring into Thailand and when it was earned. When it was earned is what was changed. It used be what was earned in the current tax year where you stayed 180 days or more. Now its what you earned in a previous tax year or the current tax year, just a long as you bring it into Thailand the year you qualify as a tax resident. I can't reveal much to you on here but this is my job, so I know what I am talking about. We don't believe there will be any enforcement when one does a visa extension unless its related to employment and that is already in place. Retirees most likely wont be forced to file. How about we make a bet? 1 ST of a girl of choice at MM. I am serious. Lets make a bet. Steven can hold the money lol. Win win for you because what you pay and what I pay for a ST are completely different lol

Million baht, with a number of standard deduction allowed the average tax was like 30,000 baht to government and if you are from a country like USA Which has a Duel Tax Treaty and pay taxes in the USA On that pension S. S. Included. The tax due is voided as far as I know those treaty are in place.
I'm sure airfare, hotel wine and dine LOL, far exceeds any tax he might have to pay but if he has ants in his pants like you can't be in a place too long that's another story.

Posts: 6804Wouldn't that depend on how much Explorer makes? What if he made 900,000 USD per year?

Posts: 5456One more thing about Thai income tax. I do not want to be enrolled in the Thai tax system. Once I file a return, anyone in the Revenue Department can claim I made an error and demand money from me. There is no defense, and they ultimately have the power to imprison.

Posts: 5456You are living in the past. The new regulations address remitted funds into Thailand. Which is a new thing.

Probably the enforcement mechanism would be visa renewal, so I will know sometime after next April if Farang visa holders are required to present a tax return to renew their visa.

Posts: 5456Normally I would have met the lady in Malaysia, but she has never traveled international before, so I had to meet her in Suvarnabhumi.

Interestingly, Airport Information told me that it was impossible, but I had my carry-on, and a boarding pass in hand, so I ignored them and went through Transit security and to the gate, where I met the lady.
That meant, I didn't burn a day in Thailand (referencing my 180 day quota for tax purposes).

Posts: 991Explorer, there is no enforcement on the 180 day rule and there never was. The 180 day rule is not a new law by the law. Only the law related to accessible income has been altered and as another poster said, the costs of what you are doing may even be higher than what you think you might have to pay in tax if you stayed here for 180 days this year. Don't forget, your country most likely has a DTA with Thailand. Therefore, just because one would be a good boy and file, that does not mean they would need to pay. That would depend on many factors. Why are you worries about this 180 days now? It's not new. Did you worry two years ago? I will be in MM next week if you are around and want to have a chat. You might kn ow me already when you see me. Feel free to send me a PM.

Did you eat a lot of pussy and lick lots of ass on your Cambodian Trip? To you have plans to continue those activities while in Kuala Lumpur? Once you get back, be advised that EverythingThia is dumping loads into massage girls on Soi Buakhao. Watch yourself!
