Thanks for the report. Glad you had a good time. Heading there soon. Have dropped in most of the bars on your list, but haven't been to the Vikings bar yet. Maybe will drop in next time. For those who love Bangkok and Pattaya, Udon is not a place for them. But for those who enjoy the slow paced life and easy going Thais, Udon is a great place to be for a while.

Udon Thani is rather a big city within Isaan, though pretty quiet during daytimes. There are quite a few retired expats living in and around Udon.

Depending of what you're seeking, Udon Thani is a nice destination for some culture (more authentic Thailand in my opinion, but bigger distances to cover), but also for mongering. Aren't most girls in the South coming from Isaan? Let's check out at the source.

The bars are supposed to close at midnight, saw police passing by a couple of times, but the nice thing is that they usually remain open until you're good to go. They just put the volume of the music down. The thing which I like about Udon is people are less pushy compared to Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, .

Stayed at the Pannarai hotel, the Old in and Eight Hotel. Breakfast usually at 'the morning house' - Hotels as well as 'the morning house' are very good value for money!!

Spend most of my evenings around Samphan Thamit, barhopping.

* Sports bar and restaurant.

* Hug bar.

* Country bar.

* Vikings bar.

* Central Plaza (yes, the shopping center is nice to meet people too).

Hit or miss. Mostly a miss.

* Day and Night. Depending bar to bar.

* Nutty park. Depending bar to bar.

Good destination if you're looking for more relaxed mongering. 4-5 days is nice, probably getting boring afterwards. Speaking some Thai helps too as English is not that widespread compared to more touristic destinations.

Probably going back next year over there!

I suggested to the Thai lady that we eat Moogata for dinner. Immediately, relatives crawled out from the woodwork, so there were 12 people at dinner. I was prepared to refuse to pay for everyone. The only defense for not paying in Asia is to claim insufficient money. I expected a huge bill. But the checkbin for 12 people for all they could eat steak was 1600 baht, so I said screw it and paid.

Afterwards, I asked the Thai lady to take me back to the hotel. She dropped me off and came back the next morning. Fine with me, I got to sleep.

She came back, not having slept all night. I suspect she had some catching up to do with some local Thai man. No problem, she doesn't get paid for last night.

I am in deepest darkest Issan, accompanied by a Pattaya bargirl. This is my third visit to her village, each time with a different sister.

My observation is that the female talent level here is very low. I suspect that any decent female is gone to Bangkok or Phukdt or Pattaya.

I sometimes stay at Centara because I like that it is located directly by the huge shopping mall and still walkable to the bars (five minutes).

Barfines at every bar is 500 baht, sometimes less if it is late in the evening. You can find ST for 1000 at almost every bar. LT 2000 - 3000 baht. Go to Country Bar if you don't need the 23 year old spinner. Ladies there are told by the boss never to ask customers for drinks. It's chill. Very laid back. I will take Udon Thani and Hua Hin any day over Bangkok. I can't comment on Day and Night because its always too loud in there for me. I prefer the smaller bars on the main drag. The ratio of ladies per farang is usually outstanding.

Now there are bars there that will try to take advantage of you. Meeting Place is one. The chubby Mamasan there always asks customers to purchase her drinks. I would not go to Meeting Place.

Full Throttle bar (after dark), Dollar Bar are other places I've had success for bottom of the barrel rates.

Is Udon Thani a mongering destination? Compared to Pattaya and Bangkok, no. But for a laid back vibe and easy, affordable access, it is great.

I like Udon Thani a little bit and enjoy my stays there, generally speaking, but 2-3 nights is tops for seeing what it has to offer.

Options for bars and nightlife away from the Samphan Thamit Alley area are very poor I've found.

As to accommodation, I stay in The Old Inn UdonThani or at Home at Udon, both are very comfortable and on the street of action.

I've enjoyed a lot of the bars around there, my only complaints being withe the bars in Night & Day who impose minimum drinks numbers before barfines allowed.

Hmmm, I like the sound of that. I might just be into the whole laid back vibe. I've never been outside of Bangkok, been thinking about Phuket, but Udon Thani might just be the place I'm going to want to try. Thing is so many Issan girls in Bangkok, why don't I try going to Issan where the girls are from right? I found the selection in Udon Thani to be lacking. I like Nong Khai which is a 40 minute drive away. Selection there is also lacking but I like being on the river and the the vibe is just right for me. And Vientianne, Laos is just across the river. You can find a girls in Udon and Nong Khai but it's a little more work.

Nong Khai: Down the street from the White Inn are a handful of small bars with a few ladies. Not a big selection, though.

I stayed at the Pannarai a couple of weeks ago. Day Night is okay, my point was that it's not a mongering destination like Pattaya, if you have to go to Udon Thani, it's a okay place to find ladies.

Typically, action in Isaan cities is sparse and expensive.

Although ladies will migrate from other places to Pattaya or Bangkok to find customers, nobody migrates to Sakhon Nakhon. So the supply of ladies is largely restricted to areas near Sakhon Nakhon. Which means the lady has family or a spouse nearby. This is a constraint that doesn't exist in Bangkok or Pattaya.

Isaan cities have mongering opportunities, but they are not mongering destinations.

I hit the Day Night plaza last night. Soi Farang has a lot more massage places now, and there are a few more bars.

As usual, the ladies work bar in Udon Thani because their Thai boyfriend doesn't want to go to Pattaya. Otherwise the ladies would be off looking for big money.

Near White Inn (in Nong Khai), there are a handful of Farang bars. The street is very quiet, and most of the bars have 2 or 3 ladies.
