Well that's how the way things was in the past I haven't been to Thailand in 20 yrs or so. I've met plenty of Farangs who gotten took to the cleaners by a hooker. Those guys was mostly slobs from Germany, Italian, Holland.

My previous post quoting the price on Thai Gold was messed up. My Bad!. It's up actually over 1% since I last checked it. Not only are prices up, premiums are also. 1.6% premium on a 1/2 Baht gold bar.

Gold on the world market for both spot and futures have hit record prices. The market has rewarded those who bought even when others in this thread were advising against it when gold on the world market was at 3000/ USD Oz Spot. For the record I am looking at chart for gold futures on COMEX it is at 3586 flat.

This is my "go to" website to track the spot price. I haven't bought any gold in Thailand in a couple of decades. I'm pretty sure it was machine made in Italy.

I've invested very little in gold relative to other holdings: mostly real estate and mutual funds.

However, in June 2024 I did invest some serious coin in gold bullion; specifically PAMP one-ounce bars and US Gold Eagles. I was enticed by the fact that I was able to purchased those items at (effectively) spot price (without any premium). As my buddies Abe and Irving would say, "Such a deal". LOL I did so when I learned that COSTCO was selling gold. And some guy explained how it worked. My "executive" membership card gave me a 2% credit back to my yearly account credit; plus, my credit card company gave me a 2% credit on the purchase.

I like the idea of having physical control of gold. If I was based in Thailand or any place in SEA, I would for sure have some stashed next to my "go bag". I have no idea about how "liquid" Thai gold is outside of Thailand. That is, how easy or difficult it would be to sell a 5 baht chain to a gold buyer in Australia and receive a fair price. I'm pretty confident with my PAMP bars with sealed assayed registration. (They are easily analyzed through the clear packaging.) Same with my sealed Gold Eagles.

I'd love to see the spot price hit 3700 before the end of year. But not likely to happen. Of course, I haven't reaped any benefits of having bought at 2300 unless I sell today. 555.

The premium on Thai Gold is very low. Throughout the world it on average 5%. Thai Gold has a premium on average of 1%. On my purchase the premium was 1. 3%. The price you pay for workmanship for Thai Gold jewelry is also very low when you buy it out of regular Thai Gold shops. There are much more elaborate and custom pieces you can buy that of much hire quality and workmanship and therefor also cost significantly more.

Welcome to Bangkok, the capital of Thailand!

This trip report will cover transportation, hotel, restaurants, and clubs / bars in Bangkok. For logistics and other notes, please refer to my trip report in the General Reports section, #14333.

Transportation:

While in Bangkok, everywhere I went was within walking distance.

Hotel:

I stayed at the Nana Hotel. Every time I stayed there in the past, I always hoped the hotel would do some sort of remodeling. But nooooo, it was still a crappy rundown place. The best part about the hotel was the location, location, and location. Was it lady friendly: YES. I think it was even goat friendly! There were no joiner fees.

Restaurants:

I was there for only two nights, so I only went to a couple:

8855 good (right across from Lolitas).

Monsoon very good.

Clubs / Bars:

In each club / bar, I asked several questions and did my best to write the answers on my trusty note pad. Thus, if I am wrong with any of my notes, feel free to chime in with the correct information.

Place: Candy.

Overall thoughts on Bangkok:

I have always thought Bangkok was one of the wildest cities in the world. The city is huge and full of energy every-damn-day / night. It was a great 2-night romp! Having said that, I have no plans to return to Thailand; at least for now.

180 days max at any one time.

I have to add, by the way, that you must have a health insurance in order to be able to get this travel insurance. But in the Netherlands, where I live, a health insurance is mandatory.

Travel Insurance:
The SquareMouth web-site gave me over 50 quotes from over 50 different companies. I chose International Medical Group (IMG). It was for 10-days and cost $260.00.
