I'm trying the JW Marriott next time. I hardly see it mentioned on here.
It seems like a great location for Nana plaza.

Posts: 2659This is not my experience. I always compare the prices of these two hotels, when I'm about to book a holiday, and most of the time there's not much difference.

*I'm talking about the DoubleTree Ploenchit. The other DoubleTree, at Sukhumvit Soi 26, is a bit more expensive.

I noticed a reference to a hotel being described as "sold out" on the Agoda booking site. Over time, I've discovered this information is often bogus. It may mean a couple of things: 1. The booking site has no more rooms alloted to it; or, it no longer has a relationship / agreement with a certain hotel. I recommend, in such cases, to use a different booking company or making inquiry directly with such a hotel.
Sam.

If you have money then def the Landmark. It is a good step up from anything nearby and literally steps from Nana. It's a rare combo of luxe and close.

Posts: 263Thanks. Will see how the 1st stay goes with the option of cancelling the 2nd stay and booking a different hotel.

Posts: 514Doubletree is a nicer hotel but typically would be 50% more expensive than Aloft would be.

Thanks for all the info from you guys. I am not on any budget and I will take your advise and stay closer to Nana. I have never gone down Soi 11 so I thought it might be something new and different but I can easily walk there from the Doubletree or Landmark.

Posts: 2201It's been rebranded. Sorry I don't remember the new name, I only walked by it about 50 times. Agoda still lists it as Four Points, but shows it sold out for several dates long into the future.

Horsetrader is right but here is my perspective on the location. I stayed at the Aloft a few years ago, trying to stay halfway between Nana and Cowboy. But for me that was a mistake because A - Cowboy sucks compared to Nana these days (unless you are trying to save a buck) and B - Maybe more important, it's really too far a walk with a Nana girl in tow. It's doable but right at the end of the patience level for both of you when you are ready to fuck.

I am assuming budget matters, but for not too much more you can stay at the Landmark which is truly luxurious and steps from Nana (and walkable to Cowboy). I could even see Nana from my hotel window. High recommend on the Landmark if you have a bit more coin. Plus the Rib Room at the top is spectacular high end steak and view.

The only downside is that it's rather difficult to control the temperature of the shower, because it does not respond quickly to modifications.
And, like HorseTrader already said, you don't have to mind walking, or taking (motorbike) taxis.

Posts: 514Thanks for the tips, I haven't tried them yet but I'd definitely say that I have found over a few years that Agoda repetitively give the best prices for Thailand compared to other hotel sites.

Thanks for the info. I like to walk so that isn't an issue. I also am looking at Four Points Sheraton on 566 Ploenchit Road, Lumpini Patumwan, Bangkok. It is closer to Nana Plaza I think. Last time I stayed at Four Points Sheraton on Soi 15 and it was great but Marriott doesn't show that property anymore.

Posts: 2201Thumbs up to that location
That hotel is quite far north on Soi 11, but there are tons of interesting things along Soi 11. Its about 1.0 km walk to Nana Plaza and about 1.2 km walk to Soi Cowboy (sort of different direction). During late evenings and night, you will see many freelancers while you walk. If you can walk a bit, the location is good. If not, there will be plenty of taxis, tuk tuks, and motorcycle taxis.

Posts: 2201Save a little money on hotels
I've booked many times using Agoda and that website immediately knows it is me, perhaps through cookies on my computer. If I search for a specific hotel and date range and don't reserve the room, I normally receive an email within the next 24 hours that tells me that my hotel has a discount for my dates. If I go to the website quickly, I've always had that price offered to me. If I wait a few hours, the website is likely to tell me that I'm too late and the available price has gone up. For example, several hours ago my email said my favored hotel was offered for $69 per night, but it was $94 when I tried to purchase it. Instead of purchasing at $94, I had dinner. An hour later I had a new email that said my hotel was available for $69 and I immediately went to the website and bought the room. But, there was a twist, I could only get the room for 5 nights at $69, if I purchased the 7 nights that I wanted, the price went up to $94 per night for each night. I purchased 5 nights at $69. I few minutes later I searched Agoda for the last 2 nights and the price was $94 per night. I left the website. Sure enough, a few minutes later I received an email from Agoda that offered the room for those last 2 nights at $69. I immediately went to the website and bought the last 2 nights for $69.
The above is a long winded description of what happened to me, here is a summary of what I learned from the process:
(1) Make sure Agoda knows your email address and Cookie information. I guess you can do this by making a reservation and doing a free cancellation. There are probably other ways.
(2) Search Agoda for whatever hotel and dates you prefer. Don't purchase yet.
(3) Wait for email that offers lower price. That email may come in 5 minutes or it may take 24 hours.
(4) Go to Agoda and make your purchase.
(5) If Agoda doesn't offer the sale price for your entire stay, just purchase the shorter stay at low price and then search for the extra days that you need.
I've purchased hotels many, many times through Agoda and I'm not sure this process will consistently work. But it worked for me today. While making prior trip arrangements, I've seen similar things, but had not previously put it all together in my mind.
Sometimes Agoda is the cheapest, but other times it may be cheaper through Priceline, Booking, Hotels, Expedia or another agency. My next trip is already booked through Agoda but my last trip was cheaper using Priceline. I cannot explain the different prices because Priceline, Booking, and Agoda are all owned by the same parent company.
I always pay a little extra to get refundable hotel rates and mostly refundable airline rates. We never know for sure that we are going to make our trips on schedule. Who knows, there might be a war that breaks out and we can't get our dicks wet on schedule.
