So you do get calls on AIS. I see what you mean now, you wanted calls and text as part of the package. Instead what you have to do is get extra calls by purchasing an addon. The reason for that is the way some countries use their mobile networks, it's mainly for data. Voice calls on the network cost a lot so everyone uses apps for calling and texting such as Line, wechat and whatsapp. Therefore you don't need much more than a data plan.

Thanks to Khun Down & Up for edumacating me on why I had to pay extra to add texting to my prepurchased AIS tourist eSIM. When I did that at an AIS kiosk at BKK, I bought 500 baht worth of calls and texts. The 30-day SIM cost about 1,200, so the top off added about 40%.

No big deal, but on my next trip I think I'll keep my AIS SIM alive after I leave Thailand. Can I do that on the AIS web site?

Upcoming trip. Anyone been to Climax Berlin recently? I went on my last trip last year and it was head and shoulders above anywhere else. Why don't you just get an esim that has text and calls? I've had my AIS esim for two years now and it has that. Having a real Thai number is useful. Mine was purchased and registered abroad with a 30 day plan, I add credit to keep the number alive.
