I totally agree with you my friend, I have had some of the best experiences in SG in the non-premium buildings. Hotel himalaya is middle range 800. This location is good for eating too veg&nonveg. Sweet and snacks. From here you can take tram buse auto or metro to sg. If anyone has other places, please report.

This is one of the major lapses on sg. No hotel in this area about 2-3 km. You can stay in howrah hotels &then take ferry to ahirtolaghat. After walking 5 min you will enter in bkpal avenue, northen entry to sg!

assorted gems in sg (places where i have been less than 5 times) :
