Yes they are not as safe as having a security guard register her. When a hotel asks for your guests ID its for YOUR safety. They will even tell you that as they register her if you ask them why its necessary. That way anything goes sideways the cops will know who was in there with you.

I have stayed at the same hotel several times now in Medellin. They register the girl and call me upstairs in my room to get my approval to let her up and to let me know she is coming. A couple of times I was downstairs waiting, usually not.
