I don't have any commentary about your response to the original post; just commenting on your quote from above because this is absolutely not true in the least bit. These chicks are not sitting around starving because there is no gringo sex tourist within a 10 mile radius of her to offer sex for money. They were eating before you got there, and will continue to do so once you have departed back to your home country.

I have been going to Medelland since 2012 and not once have I met a chica who was not dressed well and did not have a cell phone. Most of the chicas I have met hook to buy themselves expensive clothes, accessories, iPhones, etc. Some have day jobs and can only visit me during the late evening. Most are in school and can only visit me on days they do not have class or late afternoon (although I am sure there are plenty that will skip class in order to make some pesos). I have yet to meet any chica who looked to me as if she had just rolled out from under her cardboard box off the street before coming to visit me.

Maybe it just me, but I have never met an extremely poor chica who is able to afford a data plan to be able to communicate daily with extrajernos. I would imagine that the streetwalkers would be the ones considered the poorest of the p4p bunch and may have to do it (hook) because they may not have a choice, but I doubt they would have money to spend on things like data plans, smart phones, and Colombian Cupid when they have mouths to feed.

In regards to Medellin, I can say with extreme confidence that at least 98% of the chicas I met are hooking because:

-It's legal for them to do so, so why not?

-The money is better than working some boring-ass job earning peanuts.

-It is supplemental money to the money they are making at their current job.

-It pays for tuition, books, etc.

I'm all for treating the girls as human beings because they are. However, I'm wouldn't say they don't have any choice. They could work a "normal job" and make a shit wage. Some girls choose the "easy" route of being a prepago, but plenty of poor girls don't. And I'm not necessarily blaming them. It might be a rational decision.

I don't think the OP was necessarily "playing on" poor desperate girls. I think it's more likely than he was just making a fool of himself and possibly putting himself at risk. A competing forum held a Halloween Party last night in the Poblado area. Lot of talent and eye candy, and some great sexy costumes. Supposedly, chicas from the casitas and strip bars were present, but a few I talked to were semi-pro Freelancers. Hooked up with a super cute, twenty-something Hottie. Towards the end, as the guys were leaving with girls, more girls were showing up, but the guys attending had leveled off. I ended up paying for a few taxis for drunk, dateless chicas to go home. Some guys are talking about doing a super bowl party, and I think I'm game. We'll see.

Let's get back to trip reports and fun. I don't speak espanol and I am find traveling. Is everyone cut out for it no. I am street smart, yes I can order from a all Spanish menu I do it all the time. Sometimes it can be funny because I fuck up and look and go what the fuck is this? Also most restaurants and bars have wifi so it helps to get connected because you can use your tranlator if you have no Spanish. That can help someone. But sure it be great to be fluent in all languages but for me it's not going to happen.

I been in all kind of situations and ended up making my way through them even with illegal situations.

Medellin is a big city, some people you could drop off in Mannhatten and they would be lost even speaking English.

You just need to want to travel and fucking do it.

Fuck worrying about Spanish. Try to learn basic stuff and get on a fucking plane and travel. That's what I do.

I completely agree, the same could be said for dropping somebody off in LOS Angeles, but if they are of Latin decent and know Spanish they'll find their way around much easier than a native English speaker from some some rural small town.

Anyway, I thought the advantage of knowing Spanish (or Portuguese) helped most with business and negotiating with non-Pros? But the ad nauseam rant around here is how long it takes to get into a local's panties.

Not knowing the language forces you to pay more? That might be true but isn't already cheaper than many locations to start with? = YES.

When I was in SP earlier this year I only had about $500 US cash available and had to make it last 28 days. It helped that after my time at an AirBnB apartment I stayed at a hostel where I got to know the owners and everybody else spoke English very well.

I had to find affordable mongering options. Lucky there is plenty of choice down market that the locals mostly use and I was never turned away despite being African-American, hmmm. I was never overcharged either; based on information I found on local web forums (in Portuguese via Google Translate) I was paying exactly what others had reported.

Ironically my mission was to connect with non-Pros via various websites and that was failing miserably mostly because I didn't know Portuguese but eventually learned "Thank You", "Hi" and "Good Bye". Even a local who works for Delta Airlines said "Man you need to learn some Portuguese because hooking up with chicks is not hard. ".

I can corroborate his premise too.

So knowing the local language is somewhat overrated. It's more important if you live there.

I'm for moving on as well. I'll add this though, all this long winded scrambling and defensiveness against a few suggestions to learn some Spanish is rather telling and actually surprising. Just got off your lazy ass and improve your skills in the language of places you want to visit. The more you know the more your trip will be enhanced. There are a lot of free apps out there and you'the be surprised how much you can learn just putting in an hour a day.

Also guys with only a handful of Spanish words in their pocket would likely be better off in a place like Costa Rica with a number of English speaking hotels that cater to tourists, English speaking chicas working as independents, and English speaking staff at several of the popular casas or MPs frequented by gringos. In fact in these venues most of your working girls know a fair amount of basic English just as result of dealing with a lot of gringos.

Ok, the scenarios you described can happen anywhere you travel where the primary language is other than your own, even the sexual tourism locations, especially once you venture out of the tourist zone. Obviously learning the language is a good thing to do anywhere you go, but it's not absolutely necessary and you are not doomed if you don't, even in Medellin. Like Mr E said, you wouldn't be able to travel anywhere if that was the prerequisite. Although Medellin still isn't English friendly, there have been info available online about this place for over a decade. Many trip reports have been written about where to go and not to go. If your language skills are lacking and you have problems reading a menu there are ways around it, this is 2016, LOL.

Anyways, that's my view and I can respect the other opinions on the subject based on your experience. We don't have to agree on everything. Most important thing is that you do your research (RTFF), be respectful, be careful and have a good time, can we at least agree on that, LOL!

Spending a few hours with a non-pro is called a date. Can you get a regular date in the USA (or wherever you are from)? If not, forget about getting a woman to go out with you in Colombia. If you are referring to several hours or overnight with money involved, then you are talking about a professional. If a women takes money for sex, she is a pro. But if semi-pro, or non-pro, is some kind of justification for you, so be it.

If you can get a regular woman to go on a date with you at home, and you speak pretty good Spanish, you should be able to get a date in Colombia. But if you are staying at the Mansion or Parque LLeras, you probably won't a regular woman to agree to it once she figures out that you are a working girl monger.

Yup. If you're after a non-pro or even a semi-pro and you're staying at the Mansion, you're going to need to pay for additional accommodations for those nights.
