If you go to a Scotiabank / Colpatria ATM, you can withdraw 4.5 million pesos in one day. You will have to ask Schwab to raise your daily limit since the default limit is $1,000, but you can get 3.6 million pesos without raising your daily limit.

Thanks for the advice. I was kinda torn btwn the 2 apts. I've decided to go with 28th floor apt. It's brand new, no previous owner, move-in ready in less than a month with the paperwork and removal of all the decorative furniture and appliances. I asked if I can buy it as is, all furnished, and pay more. Too bad it was a No haha. Furnishing the place is going to be hard work because I have no experience nor interest in terms of interior design / decorations and shit. My house back in the States is plain and dull as fuck. Quick edit: Just found out Mansion got raided by police last night, 10 minutes after I bounced, which was about 8:30pm.

You might want to experience this apartment in the late afternoon. Top floor apartments don't have much insulation and you can be buying (or renting) an oven. A friend of mine had this experience.

I'm sure the view is just as killer 2 floors down.

I spent a few hours in and around the vera and botero yesterday afternoon Thursday April 22) and it was grim pickings, now that I think of it probably the bleakest I have seen it in months.

You might want to experience this apartment in the late afternoon. Top floor apartments don't have much insulation and you can be buying (or renting) an oven. A friend of mine had this experience.

Excellent point you make as all west facing apartments will have direct sunlight on them and will be hotter than hell from mid-day on and the higher they are in the building the warmer they will be. Many apartment owners with west facing apartments also may not be able to install Air Conditioning, so what you have brought up is of concern. Due to all of the development over the years, the increased population, and Global Warming has resulted in AC being necessary in many apartments, yet Colombians don't like AC, where as foreigners can't survive without it.

Another item is noise which can be an issue as well, as nobody installs dual or triple glaze windows.

I think you are seeing them use debit cards. I use my Amex Platinum everywhere unless it is a place that only accepts cash. It is always assumed to be debito and the people seem surprised when I say credito, as if they don't get many people using credit cards.

I actually see mostly credit cards because they always ask how many payments and have them sign a receipt versus a debit card with no payments.

There's one I saw today, 3 bed /2 bath, 81 meters or about 880 feet, it's on top floor (31st) with crazy nice view, privacy from other neighbors, 2 balconies, and all modern design. It's asking for $90 k. Time to put on my negotiating hat.

United Airlines accepts it. It's a piece of paper, they can't tell the difference as long as it is from a legit source. I think you need to do it thru video chat with someone on the other end while you perform the test. After the test, they will email you the result.

That's awesome then, but I wonder how complicated it is to video chat with someone while performing the test and what information you have to send them. I thought the tests were more like a home pregnancy test with just a positive or negative reading, but if you get the equivalent of a what a laboratory prints out I will definitely be picking some up for International travel. In fact I'm going to do some research on this.

You won't find many with anything other than a savings account, because a checking account is a form of credit. Colombian banks are very stingy when it comes to issuing credit, even secured credit, like a checking account. So the savings account is what their debit cards are tied to.

Credit cards also don't have the fraud protection like I'm the US. If someone uses their card, they're stuck paying for it. Happened to the one girl I know with a credit card.

Banking as you have noted is very different in Colombia, and personal checking accounts don't exist as nobody writes personal checks at least as far as I can tell at BanColombia where I have a "savings account" which they call it, tied to my debit card where as in the USA my debit card is tied to my checking account, so at the end of the day they are literally the same, except there are no personal paper checking accounts that I am aware of. I've never seen a person write a personal check anywhere for anything.

And Bancolombia does pay interest on their savings accounts which pay literally nothing along with a monthly maintenance fee, so at the end of the day it costs you money to maintain a savings account at BanColombia, no different than at most major banks in the USA, yet I have no experience with any other banks in Colombia.

And Bancolombia is all over it when it comes to fraud protection on their end, but not their credit card holders as you have highlighted. They fingerprint the crap out of you to verify all larger transactions made in person at their branches, yet have an App for your phone that works great for transferring funds to other Bancolombia customers, and at least that is free.

As far as a Colombian credit cards, BanColombia offered me one with like a 30,000,000 Peso limit, but I declined as I could easily see getting hosed and what if there was an issue, yet I see lots of Colombians with credit cards using them so I suspect there is some type of protection, yet totally stacked against you with the bank having your money. And another poster asked about a Colombian equivalent of a FICO score in Colombia, and it does exist, and your correct the banks are very reluctant to give out credit for their "charge cards".
