I was chilling in my apt in Bello about an hour ago. All of a sudden I hear loud crowd noises, people yelling and screaming, horns honking, and bunch of fireworks going off. I walked down to main freeway that connects Niquia metro station and Puerta del Norte and it was fucking crazy to say the least. Protesters shut down the freeway on both sides and cars / busses were reversing to get the hell out, but they are basically stuck. Only motos could move around the crowds. My dumbass almost got tear gassed, ran my ass back to apt building, and watched the protests from the safety of my balcony. Best bet is to stay in the rest of the weekend folks.

During the Botero riot time the other day this idiot foreigner in my hotel was standing at the corner stone fence of the Botero Church. Nearly 15 police pulled up hard and fast. SOB ran like a chicken with its head cut off. Ran along the stone fence towards the side of the church. Turned in front of the church heading for a dead end of that TOTAL store. Six police on his rear. Nearly got popped with a rubber bullet from the guy wearing the riot gear. Nearly pissed myself seeing the shock and fear on his face. He pointed to the hotel he was staying at and they let him go. I wish they would have roughed him up a little for making the police chase him because I hate stupid and he oozes stupid out his pores. But that is another story.

I posted this earlier but again, all my Colombian friends are hunkered down and staying home, and I've haven't seen that before, albeit I haven't been keeping track of Medellin in detail much before 2019. But if my amigos and amigas are doing it, I would think that goes triple for Gringos. I am not there so this is second-hand info but this is the worst I've heard about the situation in Medellin since the start of Covid. You just reminded me of this story.

I was in Hong Kong during the height of the protests against China a couple of years ago, and the crowds would assemble en masse greater than a million. Twice I got caught up in a ground swell of protestors no matter how hard I tried to get out of the way. If you've ever been to Hong Kong, it's wedged between the water and the mountains (kind of like Rio) but much tighter and more vertical. The only way out was sideways into a bar and I hooked up with four Chinese girls (yeah, I bought them all dinner). After about four hours the the crest of this wave of humanity finally passed us by and we all went back to my hotel room for good times. I never bullshit you guys (okay, maybe ten percent bullshit because it's impossible not to be biased about oneself) but I was so drunk by the time we made it back to the hotel that I don't remember shit other than I had a nice little orgy and they did not steal from me. I looked for pics I can't find them. A lot of the protestors in Hong Kong were dressed all-in-black and wearing black surgical fask masks waaaay before there was Covid. The sight was more than a little intimidating. I'll never forget lessons learned, it can be very difficult if not impossible to get out of the way of a million or more people. And like most of the fun and freaky things that have happened to me in my crazy life. Totally unplanned.

And I would stress further, there is no reason to get into the weeds with a less than desirable chica for more than one second. There are so many better options always waiting in the wings. My threshold for putting up with that kind of shite is extremely low in a place like Medellin. There are exceptions. If she is a "ten" to you and you are building up the fantasy in your head that she will be worth the wait, key word "fantasy" which by definition, most fantasies disappoint. If she is your novia or girlfriend and you believe you are in love. Or if your instincts and intution tell you that somehow the payoff down the line will be worth it. I am thinking of one of my regular girls who is now one of my favorites and go-to's, but we had a rocky start.

She is the only prepago to this day who I let stand me up I think three times if memory serves, and I came back for more. Normally I am one and done in that situation but something told me to try again, and now she can't wait to see me whenever I offer, she rocks my world, and charges me for one hour and stays for several. I can't explain why, but I am glad I did not give up on her too quickly, but she is the exception, not the rule. If you feel any significant level of frustration or disappointment with a prepago, blow her off and move on to the next chica. Don't waste time and energy trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. And guess what? 90% of the time the chicas you blow off will circle back around for you, and then you can set the terms. At least that's been my experience..

You are right, but places like Colombia don't have the luxury of deficit spending and $US printing the way we do. The World bank/IMF and Ratings agencies force the issue. Their choice is basically to do this or to suffer a downgrade, and then a devaluation, inflation, and other such economic consequences.

Who knows how long we (the US) are afforded this privilege. To put this in perspective, this revenue package is around $6B for a country with 1/6th the US population. The US has thrown around $6000B at this problem!

You are right GH, but just because the USA had more wiggle room does not mean Colombia has not been stupid. The international travel ban was totally unnecessary. We know now that shutting people off inside is stupid because the virus is transmitted much more inside than outside, so why are they doing it? And that incessant crap about hand washing and cleaners? Yeesh. Colombia has not been the only country to not learn anything but they are tuning out all the new data.

Right now, Colombia could mandate international travelers pay $200 into a vaccine fund versus getting the pointless PCR testing. One flight into Colombia could fund 10,000 doses of the AZ vaccine. So why not do that versus the expensive and ridiculous PCR testing which has not been shown to do a damned bit of good?

And now you got guys here saying, I think it will get better in 6 weeks, 10 weeks ETC before things get better. Uh no. They do not get the Brazil variant has reached Colombia and it is a whole new ballgame. Every time I look Colombia is doing 17,000 cases per day but worse than that, they keep hitting daily highs with regards to death.

Colombia is following Brazil and instead of the Colombian government getting their heads out of their asses and doing all they can to obtain any and all vaccines they can, they are fucking around by thinking they are going to arrest there way out of the pandemic. They have only vaccinated 5 million people. We are doing that much in 2 or 3 days.

And instead of doing things the UK way, which is to give as many people the first dose of vaccine before giving out the second, Colombia is prioritizing people being "fully vaccinated". Sigh.

It is no surprise to me that the people are rebelling now.

Not as of yet, however European Countries are in the process of setting this up for those who have been vaccinated to allow for Summer travel, and hopefully Colombia will follow suit, albeit some form of proof besides the "vaccine card" may be required which is problematic. They are looking at some form of a digital vaccine record in Europe, so it will be interesting to see how they work that out. And interestingly, besides the "vaccine card" that I got, I also have a digital vaccine administration record on file from the organization that organized the shots in California, so I have a record of it besides the "vaccine card" accessible with a QR code, a black square that can be scanned to verify whether someone has been vaccinated.

Time will tell when Colombia will let people in who have been vaccinated without needing to be tested, but I think it's going to be a while.

I am looking at my vaccine card, about the size of a playing card and frankly easily counterfeited by anyone with basic Adobe skills. The only thing official looking about it is a small CDC logo in one corner that is easily copied.

I don't believe my card will ultimately end up being my "vaccine passport" unless there is some kind of centralized registry and cross verification. And I also agree that even though I stilll believe Covid vaccination will become one of the future standards for international travel, it won't be widely accepted until the epidemiological evidence shows that the vaccine is actually working. As I posted the other day, over a billion doses have been given worldwide, but that is across different countries and governments who don't automatically follow the same reporting guidelines. We are still going to be stuck in the trenches for some time with Covid testing required close to the time of crossing international borders, it feels like to me. I hope I am wrong and it gets easier, quicker.
