It finally happened to me. Just a few hours ago, a man claiming to be from Haryana police tried to blackmail me.

So I get a call from a number (ending in 907 if anyone cares to know) and this man claimed to be Jagath Singh from Haryana Sonipat police station. He claimed he had records of my chat with a callgirl on 20th July 2021 and that it would be a case of sex trafficking, an arrest warrant would shortly be issued from their station etc etc. By this time I was mostly bemused and waiting for the hook to come. Also at the same time I realized something and turned on call recording and my android played a small clip saying 'this call is now being recorded'. Just after this, the man finished his spiel and asked what I wanted to do. Do I want to fight this in court or settle this? I said I'll fight it without hesitation. Then he said he'll process and send the case to TN police (TN is my home state). At this point I asked him again what his name was and which station he was calling from. He gave the name and cut the call, didn't mention which particular station.

Obviously I don't believe for a single moment that he was a genuine police officer.

I was able to stay calm mostly because of the existence of this forum and the many experiences posted here by fellow ISG'ians. So a big thanks to all of you. Please be warned of this and never give in to these blackmailers.

Heard about CallGin on this forum, so was checking the profiles there and contacted one Girl who had add there. It turned out to be an SP, was texting on WA and he demanded advance payment for booking, I was a NOOB back then, paid him through UPI, suddenly the guy started telling I have recorded all our chats and he has Police is in his pockets, so pay him more, else he will share the details to Cop and they will destroy my life. He said I have got all your details and you will be receiving SMS now, hurry up now and pay more. Suddenly, my phone started beaming up with lots of SMS for OTPs for different Apps, I got shit scared and paid him more and started saying sorry. He again started demanding more money now I realized, he will just keep asking money so I just switched off my mobile and tried to clam myself. Went over the net to see how he was sending all those SMS and found its a trick, which can be easily done through some Apps, which gave a little relief. I had to keep my phone for the whole night but since it was the 2nd number I used frequently, I understood this ain't going to work. So I got TrueCaller Premium and used the block features to get from only numbers present in my contacts. The guy kept calling from different numbers continuously for whole week.

The guy was small time scammer I guess as he was demanding smaller amounts like in total I lost around 500-800.

But lesson learnt, now I only relies on contacts shared by trusted members of forum or MPs.

Please share some more suggestions to avoid these, also with Phone Numbers, how much info these scammers can pull and also is there any hack to prevent these getting our numbers.

This is my concern too regarding service from these CIS birds.
