There are not many "decent places" in Mtwapa to drink tea.

But you could go in the morning from 6 to 1 to the Bakery.

Otherwise you could go to Moorings, the floating restaurant or to the Marina Seaside restaurant along the Creek.

Or you can take a taxi to Yul's or the Whitesands Hotel on Bamburi beachside.

Mtwapa is fine all day, at night just be a bit more careful if you are a newbie. There is a place called Mona Lisa behind Kendas does good food. Others will know doubt tell you other places as well. Eagles Nest food has always been good when I've been in too.

300 ks sounds about right to me.

The Kenyan Visa can be extended up to 180 days and not 5 months.

A visa run to the neighbouring countries does not help, except for Ethiopia.

You have to leave the EA community, I. E. Zambia, Ethiopia or Somalia are your closest bets.

And these guys are not stupid. If you do this more than once or twice, the chances that they will start to ask questions is high.

Since they don't like it when you intend to circumvent their immigration rules.

And given that now everything is digitalised, it has become much harder to find a solution with a corrupt official.

5 yr Multiple Entry Visa:

It cost $161. It's not that simple, though.

For Business Visits:

Invitation Letters from company / Invitation letter for business visits / Copies of registration of the company.

For Tourists:

Travel itinerary (Details about places to visit if going as tourist). / Hotel bookings.

How on earth, someone can make hotel bookings for 5 years in advance? Am I missing something here?

I know someone with a 5 year multi entry visa. He didn't make hotel bookings, he rents a compound and uses the agreement. Also, he must follow the same 3 month then apply for free extension as a tourist has to. The difference is he simply returns to KE with his visa. He's somewhat computer illiterate and always travels to UG every 3 months then spends 1 month in UG. He never applies for the extension. It's on a different site (eFNS) than the KE visa (eCitizen).

The only time you need to leave EA is if you have an EA visa and then you can simple go to TZ who is not part of the EA visa community. I posted this already in General Information.

When you request a 3 month extension online, they approve it for 2 month automatically. You print out the approved extension then take it to one of the 7 ish immigration offices around Kenya. Not to the border. You can ask the immigration to stamp you for 3 months but you need a valid reason.

In some immigration offices you can be arrested for offering a bribe.

Kenya Immigration at Land Borders are corrupt. They look for bribes so i come back from TZ with time left to return on my multi entry visa. If you get yourself in a situation where you have no place to return to, Kenyan Immigration may try to shake you down. I’ve never had that problem at all from UG or TZ.

Last year I extended my visa online and got 2 months, from the date of application. I needed 3 months, so I went to immigration. There was a woman outside who was doing difficult to let me inside the compound. Seems I needed some other form too, or such nonsense. But after some talk she let me in. Immigration is at the 3rd floor. You can easily miss / overlook it. I talked to the immigration guy there and he changed some stuff on the computer and put a stamp in my passport which gave me a 3 month extension. Gave him kk for his trouble.

No trouble when leaving the country.

Usually the standard extension of the 3 months tourist visa online given is 2 months. You MIGHT get 3 months if you take the trouble to go to immigration yourself. Might. Nobody I know bothers. It's 3+2.

Usually for the K-Permit IF you get it you pay 2 years in advance. You'll not get it for a year. Plus you pay a 100 k deposit in case there's to pay for your deportation flight. So it's 300.000 KES for 2 years. Now the dollar depreciated so it became cheaper in dollar terms. But not cheap.

As for Visa runs. No need. The tariff if you know the right people is 20.000 to 25.000 KES. 3 M+2 M is 5 months. That includes the exit stamp the new eVisa and the new entry stamp. No matter what BS other people write on this forum. That's the way it's is. Believe it or not.

The 5 year tourist visa for US citizens is hard to get and that doesn't allow you to stay 5 years. It's VALID for 5 years. It's also for a maximum stay of 3 months at a time. It's meant for business purposes.

TZ Visa. Tanzania gives VoA for 3 months. You can extend it at Immigration headquarters for a month each up to another 3 months total of 6 months. But. It's at discretion of Immigration. I was lucky I got it 3 times. Don't forget to wear long trousers and dress decently.

As I previously wrote. That's not hearsay. I DID everything myself. Don't worry about Immigration. They always find a loophole to milk the system. IT or not IT. As long as Kenya charges funny money for residents permit the legal illegal Visa game will continue. Karibu Kenya.

Kenya does a 5 year multiple entry visa for Americans.

I looked up the Retirement Visa. I just copied it from the government site. It's called the Class K: (Ordinary residents)
I just go to Uganda after 3 or 5 months as part of my Visa Run routine then.

For Americans, TZ issues only a 90 D multiple entry visa good for 1 year for $100.

Total cost of visa for 1 year is $152 - $202.

3 M - $51 KE.

2 M. Free KE.

3 M - $100 TZ OR 3 M $50 UG.

3 M - $51 KE.

2 M. Free KE OR 1 M free TZ.

There's travel and housing costs to consider.
