Trump picking a fight everywhere. He just set a list of sanctions against Colombia. Those US Gringos in Colombia now are sitting ducks. LOL, probably not, that was a joke.

I wouldn't say there's political tension between the two. The leaders are doing what they think is best for their country and both say dumb things but all that matters is what is happening behind closed doors.

Tijuana is almost an extension of San Diego with all the people working in the US and many are US citizens. On top of that the bars in the Zona only care about making money. They don't care what you think and will usually agree with what you say to make money from you and insult you behind your back.

Remember the Asians that were worried about negative views when COVID was going on, and nobody cared in the Zona. It's just about making money.

As far as the GN they are doing the job of making the area more secure, be happy with that and just don't carry weapons or drugs and you have nothing to worry about.

I'm in Tijuana now and notice that last night (Saturday Night) the National Guard soldiers walking on patrol were randomly stopping people and searching them. They would just walk down the street and stop and frisk people. I seen this no less than 5 times in Zona Norte last night. A more notable stop was when I went to the OXXO on Coahuila across the street from Hong Kong Club. When I went in the store to get beer a group of English speaking Gringos were in front of me in line. They left and I paid for my beer. When I stepped outside the store all of those guys were up against the wall with their hands up being searched by the National Guard soldiers.

Guys beware of this because it's happening more than I have ever seen it in the past. Seems like they are more engaged on the streets than the Municipal Police.

Believe me, I'm always on the lookout for them. It doesn't seem to matter.

I've actually never been stopped by the "camo" guys. They don't seem to be much interested in stop and search. I don't even worry about those guys. It's always the municipal cops.

    Ok man whatever.

Anyway they made it quicker than usual this time. So far, they have just been checking for drugs. No funny business. Yet.

But yeah, I'm usually going back in the early morning hours and walking by myself. I might as well paint a giant bull's eye on my back so they can see me better.

    Robber with Badges

Hong Kong has been paying off everyone with any authority in Tijuana for decades.

They would rat out any policia hassling their business.

In Tijuana I always take a Hong Kong limo from the border to the club and back. The limo driver said that the Tijuana police never stop them to check passengers.

WTF are they talking about here? What $20? And who ever knew they called them minions LOL.
Didn't watch the video but last week they had a few videos going around showing how the traffic guys were letting people cut in line if they got paid. It went viral and the papers made a big deal about it. So the mayor pulled them from the job immediately until he could come up with a better solution. Now they made it clear that if your caught trying to cut in line you can get fined and have your car towed.

They've referred to the traffic guys as "minions" for awhile.

    Stopped by police yet again.

Now how many times cops actually do this is open to debate, but it is a good opening gambit to get a mordida.

In my case, many of my cars have had the backlight and rear passenger windows tinted. But not the front doors or windshield. And when stopped the cops never even mentioned tinted windows. A tinted windshield and passenger windows are actually illegal in CA, although AFAIK it's rarely enforced.
I am a Tijuana local and I can verify all this, if you have tinted windows you run the risk of being stopped by the cops, and it is illegal in Tijuana, they also do an exception to factory tilted windows because they know you can't help it and you can't remove the tint.

Actually the law Tijuana made against tinted windows is old. They had so many complaints about drivers, especially tourists, complaining about police pulling them over that back in 2023 they removed the law. Now the problem has been that the law hasn't officially been put on the books so technically the police can decide if they want to pull you over for it. The new Mayor was supposed to expedite this process so it wasn't illegal officially but I haven't read anything about in the papers.

My advice is to bring up the confusion on the law and if the officer wants to write a ticket you understand but you have been advised by others to talk to a judge about it especially as a tourist. Most likely the cop will let you go but it's very much a grey area right now.

I was heading down Calle Segunda, a block before the Smart & Final when I saw a police truck make a left towards my direction. I immediately knew they were going to stop me. I pulled over to the side and a stocky guy and a 6 foot tall chick walk out of the truck LOL. I rolled all of my windows down. The good thing was I hadn't drank any alcohol at all, so I knew they couldn't throw the alcohol breath accusations at me. It's funny too because I had just came from buying a girl at Chicago something to drink, but I opted to drink a diet coke because I knew the probability of getting pulled over on my way back was extremely high. Anyway, I had my drivers license and registration all ready when the cop came over to my side. I told him he looked familiar, which kind of threw him off. But he did, he looks like someone that had pulled me over around the same area before a couple months ago. He asked if I had anything to drink. I said no sir, I do not drink at all. He asked if I had any drugs, again I said, no sir, I'm 100% sober. He asked where I was coming from. I said I had met up with some friends at Revolucion. He asked if I was sure I hadn't had anything to drink and I said definitely and I would pass any test he could throw at me. He then started saying my window tint was illegal and could be subject to a fine. I told him that while I understand it may be illegal in TJ, it's not illegal where I'm from. I told him I was driving straight to the border and would be out of there within a couple minutes. He told me to get out of my car to pop the trunk. He looked through it and asked what I did for a living, etc. He then gave me my drivers license and registration back and told me to go on my way. One of the rare occasions these fuckers let me go without having to bribe them.
