Posts: 2106I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like Montezuma's Revenge Brazil-style.

All I could think was that I consumed some food that was infected by local water in some shape or form. As you suggested, it could have simply been poorly-handled food ingredients. The bug took one day / one night to flush through the system and I was generally back to normal.
As a rule when traveling countries in South America and Southeast Asia, I look to eat hot foods. The hotter the better. Obviously, I drink bottled water.

The very first time I went to Brazil, it was to Rio for 10 days (my shortest trip ever). About halfway through the trip, I ate some sushi at a buffet-style place, and got violently ill! I panicked because I was having the time of my life and feeling like I had just discovered monger paradise, and I feared the remainder of the trip would be ruined! But lucky for me, I was only out of commission for one day. It took many trips and many years later before I would try sushi again in Brazil, and that happened to be in Sao Paulo if I recall correctly. I still can't recall eating sushi in Rio ever again, but I know there are supposed to be some good sushi restaurants in the Marvelous City now. My last time down, I had sushi at a fantastic place in Florianopolis (see the Brazilian Gastronomy thread).

Posts: 1141Yes I agree that Peru was perhaps the exception in my Latin American travels so far with better than expected cuisine not only in Lima but when I was in the Machu Picchu area eating at the local markets. In Rio, the fish dishes weren't bad which was expected since so close to the sea but they didn't have to hammer me with both fries AND rice on the same order.

Posts: 48Peru has a ton of veg w their food (Lima is considered top 5 in the world cuisine wise). Some dishes are with rice and fries here but I am a New Yorker living in Lima for 2 years now and still not tired of the fries because they are real potatoes haha.

Posts: 1141I'll have to check out these quilo restos that operate on that basis longer the next time I'm in Rio as I would have like to pick my own food rather than get stuck with whatever standard sit down restos serve. I find that for many dishes the restos there don't have much vegetables and go heavy on the rice and fries.

Posts: 567I looked at his videos on YouTube and it's most likely a youth party boat that you can sign up for at any number of hostels. I did a few of those back in the day when I was a backpacker (mid 2000's). Note that those are civilians and not working girls, but if you're younger and have some game it shouldn't be hard to find girls to hook up with (I know I did back then!

On the other hand, if you want to rent a nice boat with a couple crew members you can do so for $200-$500/ day depending on boat. It's something fun to do and split with friends. You'd need to pay girls on top of that.

Posts: 54The quilo restaurants are pretty good for a quick lunch. There are several in copacabana and some do all day quilo buffet like siqueira grill or fagulha. I like fagulha. They got a churrasco station and cut the picanha right from the skewer. Of course not as posh as churrasceria palace and I would not take a date there, but for a quick healthy lunch (beef, vergetables, rice, potato, salad etc.) in the 60-100 R range more than ok. Compared to other latin countries like argentina with very limited good almoco options or colombia with the menu del dia, that quickly gets boring (mostly beef or chicken with platano and rice) brazil and also rio are way better. I am still discovering new places every day.

Posts: 2694That's a perfect description of CC. A beautiful place with mediocre food. I go there every time I'm in town, just for coffee and desert.

They did not charge me for Final Surpresa whatever it means. Room is nice, shower in the room. Overall good service. Received an offer of R$1,000 for 90 minutes all holes included service.

I would probably complain to the management if remaining time would not be enough for me.
No such problem in Edem or Delirio.
