But lucky for me, I was only out of commission for one day. It took many trips and many years later before I would try sushi again in Brazil, and that happened to be in Sao Paulo if I recall correctly. I still can't recall eating sushi in Rio ever again, but I know there are supposed to be some good sushi restaurants in the Marvelous City now. My last time down, I had sushi at a fantastic place in Florianopolis (see the Brazilian Gastronomy thread).
I'm not a doctor, but it sounds like Montezuma's Revenge Brazil-style.

I have been with one day of terrible stomach pains and ensuing sessions on the toilet in Brazil. This has hit members of my crew, but not on the same day.

All I could think was that I consumed some food that was infected by local water in some shape or form. As you suggested, it could have simply been poorly-handled food ingredients. The bug took one day / one night to flush through the system and I was generally back to normal.

As a rule when traveling countries in South America and Southeast Asia, I look to eat hot foods. The hotter the better. Obviously, I drink bottled water.

Of course not as posh as churrasceria palace and I would not take a date there, but for a quick healthy lunch (beef, vergetables, rice, potato, salad etc.) in the 60-100 R range more than ok. Compared to other latin countries like argentina with very limited good almoco options or colombia with the menu del dia, that quickly gets boring (mostly beef or chicken with platano and rice) brazil and also rio are way better. I am still discovering new places every day.
I'll have to check out these quilo restos that operate on that basis longer the next time I'm in Rio as I would have like to pick my own food rather than get stuck with whatever standard sit down restos serve. I find that for many dishes the restos there don't have much vegetables and go heavy on the rice and fries.

    Guide in Brazil

Any gringos like me Going to Brazil and want someone who really knows the scene let me know. Big parties (group of 16 guys last month) or solo / small groups.

Several members from this site already know him. He provides everything a gringo could want in Brazil and speaks English Portuguese and Spanish. Think he charged me like $30 a day. Driver private car, he found a Airbnb for one group and mansion for another. And his friends are hot haha.

Private message me stay safe out here.

I looked at his videos on YouTube and it's most likely a youth party boat that you can sign up for at any number of hostels. I did a few of those back in the day when I was a backpacker (mid 2000's). Note that those are civilians and not working girls, but if you're younger and have some game it shouldn't be hard to find girls to hook up with (I know I did back then!

On the other hand, if you want to rent a nice boat with a couple crew members you can do so for $200-$500/ day depending on boat. It's something fun to do and split with friends. You'd need to pay girls on top of that.

These are buffets which charge you based on the weight of the plate of food you end up taking and they are dirt cheap. There was one just at the corner from my Airbnb in Copacabana and a few along the main commercial road a block inland from the beach. Also during one of the days I was in Centro after my prive session at Onix, I wanted to check out Confeitaria Colombo which is suppose to be one of the most beautiful cafes in the world. I got there at about 1:45 pm when I thought the lunch rush was over but there was still a huge lineup in the street just to get in. So I abandoned that visit and walked a block away to find a comida por quilo eatery where I had my late lunch and the cost was even cheaper than the one in Copacabana.

Don't expect the food at these to be Michelin star quality but it is okay by my dining standards and because the cost is dirt cheap, you will see a lot of locals there. The one bad thing about these comida por quilo places is that they operate only during the daytime hours so I wasn't able to find any for the dinner hours. I did find a comida por quilo when I was in Foz do Iguazu after my stay in Rio but didn't find any in the immediate area where I was staying in Sao Paulo but I'm sure they exist there too as this seems to be a popular concept in Brazil.

That's a perfect description of CC. A beautiful place with mediocre food. I go there every time I'm in town, just for coffee and desert.

Quickest way to get in trouble. Ask Kenny from back in the day.

They did not charge me for Final Surpresa whatever it means. Room is nice, shower in the room. Overall good service. Received an offer of R$1,000 for 90 minutes all holes included service.

Plus cost of a room and massage. Declined, cost of over US $ 300 is absurd. House pays to garota about R$150-200, so why she has an audacity to ask for R$1,000 is beyond my understanding.

Onix-10 minutes for her to shower, 2-3 minutes for her to put a condom on a dick.

I would probably complain to the management if remaining time would not be enough for me.

No such problem in Edem or Delirio.
