A couple years ago when I was in the Philippines I tried using VPN in different locations when on Agoda to see if hotel prices would be different depending on where I set the VPN. I was looking for hotels in Subic and Sabang and didn't notice any big differences in prices. It was kind of a pain because it would report the price in the currency where I set the VPN. Like if I set the VPN to show I am in Bangkok then all the hotel prices would be in Thai Baht and I would need to convert back to USD.

On Agoda you can change the currency in the upper tool bar.

I'm using proton vpn for bankong, but ISG doesn't work with the vpn on.

Just wondering if there are any obvious advantages, apart from using hotel wifi and the like?

For example, setting the available server location to one in The Phils for online searches.

I've recently been advised to use one at home for work purposes and gaining access to certain websites.

It's all a bit new to me.

Get on Pina Love, hit up freelancers on the street or hit the bars.

Pay too much for everything but have a great time.

Learn from your mistakes and work out how to spot a Bakla.

And return with experience and a different plan of attack that suits your needs.

Yes, I rarely run a a device without full e-2-e encryption. Its not quite as anonymous as the VPN vendors would like you to think, but its a good security step.

Like ME, I have a bank in my home country that does not allow login access if I am outside the US, so VPN-ing thru LA or LV is the saving grace. There are still a number of websites (http) that don't encrypt your data (https). ISG is one of those sites.

Downside: VPN vendors sometimes advertise that you can get Netflix or other streaming bigs access from outside your home country by using their VPN server inside of your home country. But the bigs know all the VPN servers and often restrict access based on that.

The ISP's (Globe, Smart, Xfinity, etc) routinely try to subvert or work around your VPN so they can see your web traffic (they don't make much money from your monthly internet fee; they make tons of money selling your browsing history and identity to advertisers).

Basically there's not a good reason NOT to use one as far as I can tell.

I use one all the time whether I'm at home or abroad. I'm no IT whizz but it's meant to prevent (or reduce) websites being able collect your data / browsing history etc. In the UK it's essential now if you want to access porn sites. You have to set the vpn to a foreign server otherwise you need to confirm you're over 18 by inputting credit card info.

Using a VPN on my phone at work means I can use the work WiFi without them knowing who is accessing specific sites. I wouldn't access porn at work anyway but I wouldn't want them to know I occasionally browse dating websites during my lunch break LOL.

Basically there's not a good reason NOT to use one as far as I can tell.

I constantly use NordVPN on my phone and tablet (and computers when I am home). 1. Some US websites and apps (one of my banks) will not let you logon if you are showing out of the USA. 2. I download torrents and have received cease and desist letters from studios about copyright violations. And like you say some networks will block sites like ISG if you are not using a VPN. I buy the 2 year plan.
