It's not that the women were hotter 20 years ago, its a function of your memory forgetting all but the hottest women.

I have found posts on this board from 20 years ago claiming that women then were not as hot as women 20 years earlier.

It is the same as my apartment was 4500 baht 17 years ago and my taxi to the airport was 1000 baht 17 years ago, the same as they are today. If people do not know how or do not want to negotiate is a different story. But that is also the price in the BJ bars and gentlemen's clubs. And I have never had a problem negotiating this in the massage shops.

    Areca lodge buffet

It may be priced at 350 or even 400 now. But it is available for outsiders. So are the swimming pools (400 baht).

The Hilton breakfast buffet was around 750 baht or even more, IIRC, when I looked into it, but that was pre-covid. I don't know how much it is now. And according to their website the restaurant where they serve it, is closed for maintenance at the moment.

Yes, racism is messed up. That said, it's almost never about the "3 Indians 1 beer problem", and not about deodorant or trousers either. It comes down to how a certain demographics of long-standing customers is unhappy with your presence.

If you spent any time on Thailand expat forums, you've probably noticed how many crusty old Farang intensely hate Indians. They're not even hiding it. Now, the Pattaya mongers are basically the worse end of that racist demographics.

They want to exclude you, and the bars are obliging in order to keep them as customers. It's similar to how certain venues (like Soi Thaniya in Bangkok) are Japanese only. Japanese punters don't like the barbarian Farang messing with "their" girls and spaces.

The main difference is that Japanese (and East Asians in general) are comfortable with open racism. Farang are not, so they come up with various thinly veiled excuses like trousers or clean shoes, and would certainly probably welcome you if you said you were from the UK to maintain the pretense.

Personally, I'd go to places that accept me (fortunately there are plenty), and not even try to give money to those who act disrespectful towards my group, even if they made an exception and allowed me to be their customer.

The scourge of Walking Street has officialy made its way to Soi Chaiyapoon

Denied entry at Aftermath Bar. I am 32 M, Indian, lone monger, well groomed, clean shoes, trousers, shirt, perfume, yada yada.

I walk up to a lady sitting outside, smile and point her to inside the bar. She and I walk up to the guard at the doorstep.

    Guard: "Where you from?"

Me, knowing full well where this is going but in no mood to lie: "India."

    Guard: "No."

    Me: "No?"

    Guard: "No."

    Girl, as I leave: "Sorryyy."

You heard it right. Between a bloody coupon system and racism, the coupon system achieves the same / better outcome. And yet racism is the popular choice!

Side note, my overall Pattaya experience has been nice. The specific incidents I talk about on this forum construe a very unfair and negative picture of Pattaya. Maybe I will write a full report soon.

There is no sure shot way to avoid running into ladyboys in Pattaya even if you skip these sois. Instead, you end up missing out on the many regular girly bars there.

Fair enough. I do not know if they were post-op.

If so, perhaps they were well within their rights to answer "no". I do wonder why they did not point that out during the discussion with hotel staff. Perhaps too ashamed / anxious? They were quite shy right from the start.

Yeah, I tipped the staff right after. The ladyboy I barfined did not seem aggressive by any means but I do not even want to think about what could have happened in the room.

    American Breakfast?

    Hello everyone,

    Off topic.

I'm planning to go to Pattaya in late September. Last time I was there I stayed close to Walking Street but this time I am planning to stay close to Soi 6.

I found a great buffet in Beach Road but I'the like to know if there are any buffet / americab breakfast places near Soi 6.

    Thank you.

    Consider yourself lucky

1000 BHT is too little to fight for and treat this as a bad experience and a life saving one. I had a similar scene in another country once, LB got really aggressive and I ended up with a torn shirt in the hotel lobby, it was a routine act for other hotel guests. I gave a nice tip and a positive review online to the male receptionist who helped me and saved me from her clutches. This could have flared and gotten very ugly in the room. So just have a drink forget it and move on, consider yourself lucky!

At around 2 AM, I asked a pretty-looking Soi 7 bar "girl" if they are a ladyboy because of the tall height and somewhat deep voice. They said no. For a freelancer, I would do ID verification right there but this was a bar and they said no in front of the other bar girls.

I got a drink at the bar but I wanted to confirm further because my spidey senses were still going off. I looked up the bar on Google. Absolutely no mention of ladyboys anywhere. But there were many reviews about really pretty girls. Now I start feeling a little bad wondering if that point-blank "are you ladyboy?" question was hurtful. For 1000 THB, I barfine them.

Guess what? We reach hotel lobby. The staff speaks with them in Thai. Awkward silence follows, which I assume is because the staff asked if they have told me they are a ladyboy. Staff breaks it to me, "you caught a ladyboy". I was livid but there was not much to be said. I have the ladyboy step out and ask for a barfine refund.

They make a few phone calls. In between they asked me if I am okay, to which I said no. I tried to call the bar's listed phone number on internet but the calls go unanswered. After a few minutes, the ladyboy refuses the refund because "the fee has gone to the shop already"..

So I just told them I will report this and headed back to my hotel room to sleep.

I still do not know if I should go back because I have heard ladyboys can get real aggressive. I do want this to be called out to the bar management if case they are not aware this happened. How should I go about this? I guess I will never see that 1000 THB again and I can make my peace with that. I do not think I can post a Google Maps review because I have heard Thai defamation laws might complicate things for me.

Before responding to this post, please keep in mind that I wrote this all out for the community's benefit. I would appreciate empathy and advice rather than insults or insinuations.
    1) Tip the hotel staff who saved you from what could have become a much worse experience in the room, with an aggressive dude swinging a dick bigger than yours in your room. It's not the staffs job to do that, and most would probably not care.

    2) If it's not a known ladyboy bar (no idea, I don't know Pattaya), I'd stop by the bar if I was in area anyway and ask for my money back. Be prepared, ask politely, and do not lose your temper or start arguing. Exit once you see you are not getting anywhere, rather than make a scene and get clubbed over the head with a bottle from behind. Remain calm at all times. Easier if you go in with the expectations of not getting anything back, and are just on your way to another bar to barfine a real girl.
